Ed Farrelly is an exciting and inspirational young adventurer. Aged just 22 Ed has already completed numerous major expeditions, broken records and been forced to come to terms with the death of a team-mate in 2011. He climbs to help raise awareness for both the Alzheimer’s Society  and the Depression Alliance, two charities close to his heart.

Ed is a fine example of a young highly motivated man who through his considerable achievements has created substantial interest in himself. Through public speaking he imparts his infectious enthusiasm for life and is a great inspiration for others to learn from, particularly young audiences.

In addition to public speaking Ed is very suitable for brand promotion and ambassadorial activities. Such is the interest in Ed Farrelly that he  is sponsored by Adidas, Rab, Scarpa and Edelrid amongst a number of other high profile companies.

To date Ed has travelled to and climbed on some of the biggest mountains in the world including becoming the youngest person, aged 18, to summit Mt Baruntse (7129m) and the first Briton to solo Peak Chapayev (6095m) in Kyrgyzstan. His most recent expedition was an attempt to become the youngest Briton ever, aged 22, to solo a peak over 7000m, which he was forced to abort after severe weather conditions.

He has battled extreme temperatures, suffered frostbite and faced the death of a team-mate having reached the summit of Aconcagua, South America’s highest peak. He has also rafted the Grand Canyon and completed the Mongol Rally, a car race over 1/3rd of the world surface from London to Ulan Bator, Mongolia.

‘I’ve climbed in some of the most popular high altitude regions in the world including South America and the Himalayas but what I really enjoy about the Tien Shan is the level of remoteness. Khan Tengri is a unique peak in a very unique region, it’s an exciting and challenging combination- adventure is foremost about having fun. Many have and will continue to climb the well known ‘celebrity’ mountains, this was a whole different challenge.’

Charity Work

Alzheimer’s Society – Ed’s Grandmother suffered with Alzheimer’s for the last five years of her life.  Ed found it a heartbreaking disease to watch take hold of his Grandmother.

‘All the amazing experiences she’d had growing up disappeared. I think there’s also something to be said for legacy and using the legacy of your own family to inspire you in your own life.’

Depression Alliance – Ed believes that the pressures that young people today face are tremendous. From an early age we are told about the importance of getting good grades, to get into a good university, to get a good grade, to get a good job and ultimately to have a “successful life”.

‘I’m wanting to champion the idea that individuality is what makes people great, that there is no set path to success. Depression is also tackled like a mountain, one step at a time.’
