Conference speaker Andrew Marr is a political commentator, newspaper columnist, and television personality. His career has seen him the recipient of over a dozen major awards, both for writing and broadcasting. Amongst these, Andrew Marr counts awards from BAFTA, the Broadcasting Press Guild, and the Royal Television Society. The two awards received from the Broadcasting Press Guild were for The Andrew Marr Show, and Andrew Marr’s History Of Modern Britain. He has also been named Columnist of the Year in What The Papers Say Awards, Columnist of the Year in the British Press Awards, and Journalist of the Year in the Creative Freedom Awards. In addition to this, David Marr has received the Journalist Award in the Channel 4 Political Awards and was named the best individual contributor on television at the Voice of The Listener and Viewer’s Annual awards.
After completing his schooling, Andrew Marr went on to Trinity Hall, Cambridge, where he gained a BA in English before joining The Scotsman as a trainee and junior business reporter in 1981. He went on to become the newspaper’s parliamentary correspondent in 1984 and its political correspondent in 1986. After a two-year stint at The Independent, keynote speaker Andrew Marr returned to The Scotsman as political editor in 1986, once more switching to The Economist as a political editor before once more going back to The Independent as Chief Political Commentator before his appointment as editor in 1996. The two years before his appointment as BBC editor as political editor in 2000 saw him work as a columnist for The Express and The Observer.
A bestselling author, Andrew Marr has published numerous books. These include The Battle For Scotland, Ruling Britannia, The Day Britain Died, My Trade, A History Of Modern Britain, A History of Modern Britain part 2, and Diamond Queen.
Besides his political journalism and presentation work, Andrew Marr has also completed numerous series. Amongst these are political and historical documentaries for Channel 4 and BBC, and include the likes of Andrew Marr’s History Of Modern Britain, Britain From Above, Darwin’s Dangerous Idea, Andrew Marr’s The Making Of Modern Britain, Megacities and Andrew Marr’s History Of The World.
He was also President of the Galapagos Conservation Trust and has supported the Radio 4 Appeal for iDE Uk. He has, since then, become a patron.
