Extreme mountaineer Benedikt Böhm is the international managing director of Dynafit, a leading global ski touring brand. He is also a speaker whose talks, managed with great finesse, sees him develop ties between the world of extreme mountaineering and the business world.
With his passion for the mountains, Benedikt Böhm is no risk-taker. He is, instead, a meticulous planner who, in both his sport and business lives, meticulously plans his goals, working passionately on their implementation.
Although Benedikt Böhm studied in both the United States and England, he believes his success is due to his love of pushing his limits.
Regarding his mountaineering exploits, Benedikt Böhm uses what is called ‘speed style’ to climb 8,000-meter mountain peaks without supplemental oxygen or aid extremely fast. This uncompromising climbing method has seen him take on some of the highest peaks in the world with his focus on the clock. In so doing, he limits the risks of the time he spends in the ‘death zone’. The term ‘death zone’ refers to high altitudes where there is not enough available oxygen for a person to breathe properly.
Benedikt Böhm not only climbs quickly but takes the minimum supplies with him. Once he reaches the summit, he again quickly comes back down using his skis. His speedy ascents are radically different from the norm and demand absolute precision and preparation in order to climb in such a short period of time. It requires not only exceedingly hard training and loads of discipline, but also creativity in developing new technology, thinking out of the box to find solutions, and a readiness to take action.
Despite a business career and love of extreme mountain climbing, Benedikt Böhm also takes time out to write. He is the author of “In the face of Manaslu: Speed mountaineering in the death zone” and “From the Death Zone to the Boardroom: What Business Leaders and Decision Makers Can Learn From Extreme Mountaineering”
