The Brownlee brothers have totally dominated triathlon since 2010 when they launched onto the international series. In 47 of the past International Triathlon Union (ITU) World Series Races there has been a Brownlee on the podium in 33 of them.
At the London 2012 Games they became the first brothers to stand on the same podium together at an Olympic Games since 1908. Nobody in Olympic history has repeated this achievement as they did by winning Gold and Silver at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Jonny Brownlee is the most consistent triathlete in the sports history finishing 42 consecutive races in a row on the podium.
Alistair Brownlee is the reigning double Olympic Champion (2016, 2012) Commonwealth Champion (2014), World Champion (2009, 2011), European Champion (2010, 2011, 2014).
Jonny is the 2016 Olympic Triathlon Silver Medallist, 2012 Olympic Triathlon Bronze Medallist. The 2012 World Champion and Silver Medallist in the 2016 and 2013 World Series and Commonwealth Gold Medallist (2014). Jonny was also U23 World Champion (2010) and is the reigning World Sprint Triathlon Champion.
They were both brought up and educated in Leeds in Northern England which remains their training base. They live together and train together pushing each other unselfishly to achieve greater success. Outside of their obvious accolades for dominating triathlon they are noted for their true sportsmanship. In September 2016 at the final World Cup Series Race of the season in Mexico Jonny was leading with the finish line in sight when he collapsed. A win for Jonny would have meant he would be crowned 2016 World Champion. Alistair in second place picked up his brother and arm in arm they crossed the line taking joint silver. Alistair could have taken the win for himself but by helping his brother this enabled their South African rival to pass them and take gold. The world’s media picked up on this true act of sportsmanship which is just one of a number of times when the brothers have helped each other out in similar situations.
They are perfect role models and ambassadors of their sport.
