Catherine Barba is a New York-based French entrepreneur and a leading figure in digital retail. She started her career in 1995 as an intern at Technip in the United States. While working there, she developed an interest in the Web and upon graduating, headed the OMD’s internet department until 1999.
Following that, she dabbled in entrepreneurship and set up CashStore, an internet shopping company. It grew to have 500,000 users and 1200 e-Business partner sites before Catherine sold it to Plebicom. She did not stop there. In 2011, she developed Malinea, a digital commerce consultancy which she then sold to vente.privee.com
Catherine Barba is also ready to help others enter the market. In September 2012, she established the Catherine Barba Group, through which she helps retailing startups enter the digital market. The entrepreneur also invests in promising technological startups.
In her words, “When we surround ourselves with different people, experiences, and profiles, we will be even better able to invent tomorrow.”
That’s not all, Catherine Barba understands the social issues surrounding women in technology and supports them in their field. She has even contributed to events such as La Journée de la Femme Digitale (Digital Women Day). For her efforts, Catherine was the Legion d’Honneur by Marlene Schiappa, French Minister of State for Gender Equality. Little wonder then, that in 2015 and 2016, Catherine Barba was named as one of 50 most influential figures in Europe’s digital economy. She has received “Femme en Or” award in 2011, “Alumni of the Year ESCP Europe” award in 2012, and “Knight of the National Order of Meritin” award in 2012 for her contribution to flourishing digital retail in France.
