Fernando Rivas Corral holds a degree in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences. He pursued further studies in Germany, Holland, France, and England. He completed his doctorate with a focus on the performance analysis of male and female badminton at an elevated level.

His journey with badminton began in childhood. Fernando Rivas Corral started coaching the sport while at university. He was nineteen years old at the time. In 2004, he joined the Spanish Badminton Federation. This was the beginning of a stellar career.

In 2007, Fernando Rivas Corral began collaborating with a talented young player from Huelva named Carolina Marín. She had come to the High-Performance Centre in Madrid to advance her skills.

As the national coach during the Beijing Olympics, Fernando Rivas Corral aimed to have the Spanish anthem played at a badminton final. He presented a strategic plan to the federation, which he implemented with Carolina and other players. This collaboration led to an exceptional array of achievements for Carolina, including a Gold medal in the Rio 2016 Olympics, three World Championships, and six European Championships. Under his guidance, Spanish badminton flourished, with the national team going from zero international medals to a remarkable total of 26.
