Jim Collins is a guru in the world of management. A student and teacher of what drives companies and makes them successful, he is often quoted in the management world. A Socratic advisor to leaders in the business environment, Jim Collins spent years studying company behaviour. This included anything from small startups to large multinationals.
His more than 25 years of research led to Jim Collins authoring numerous books. He has seen more than 10 million of his books sold worldwide and translated into 35 languages. Jim Collins began his research and teaching career as a Stanford Graduate School of Business faculty member. In 1992, he received the Distinguished Teaching Award. Three years later, he founded a management laboratory in Boulder, Colorado. He directs his research team at the laboratory and holds seminars aimed at public institutions and executives from large companies.
Besides his work in the business sector, Jim Collins also indulges in his passion for learning and teaching in various social sectors. These include healthcare, faith-based organisations, social ventures, education, and nonprofits.
In 2012 and 2013, Jim Collins took on a two-year appointment as the Class of 1951 Chair for the Study of Leadership at West Point’s US Military Academy.
Regarding his educational background, Jim Collins holds a BA in mathematical science and an MBA from Stanford University. He also holds honorary doctorates from the University of Colorado and the Peter F. Drucker Graduate School of Management at Claremont Graduate University.
