Kriss Akabussi MBE was an international hurdler. Kriss’ greatest athletic achievements were his individual gold medal for the 400m hurdles in the 1990 European Championships and as a member of the 4×400 metre relay squad who took gold at the 1991 World Championships.

As a motivational speaker, Akabusi speaks around the acronym F.I.T, (Focus, Innovation and Teamwork).

Hurdles are part of every persons life. These are what make people strong. In the end, man has become more resilient because of the number of problems he had to overcome. Kriss Akabussi was no exception to the rule. When it came to hurdles, he had battled them both physically and emotionally, which is why he has earned the right to become one of the leading sports motivational speakers.

Born in Nigeria, he was part of the Igbo tribe, but at a very young age, he was sent to the United Kingdom where he was first raised by his brother and then his uncle. He was left to fend for himself and experienced abuse in his formative years. Nonetheless, he grew from the experience. He was reunited with his mother during his early teens, but instead of returning to his roots, Kriss opted to stay in the country that he grew to love. It was then a new beginning for Kriss. He embarked on a new career as a sprinter and then as a hurdler.

During his active years in sports, he broke several records and garnered medals. He is best remembered for helping Britain clinch the gold and beat the Americans in the World Championships 4×400 metre relay in Tokyo in 1991. He won Olympic silver in Los Angeles and two bronze medals in Barcelona in 1992.

Kriss was awarded the MBE by Her Majesty The Queen in her Birthday Honours List in recognition of his services to the country through athletics. In the 1990’s he embarked on a career in television and the very popular sports personality presented the Big Breakfast and BBC’s Record Breakers.

Kriss has served as an inspiration to those who had nothing. Life had served him lemons, and this Olympic motivational speaker is one shining example that you can truly make something of yourself if you remain committed. Kriss shares his vision of leadership, teamwork, and strength to companies and individuals worldwide with a vibrance and personality that endears audiences to him.
