Lene Gammelgaard is a Danish author, lawyer, journalist, psychological counselor, mountaineer, expedition leader and leading inspirational speaker. On the 10th May 1996 she successfully summited Mt. Everest and became the first Scandinavian female to do so but disaster struck on the way down and many of her team were tragically killed in a storm. Lene’s mantra prior to the climb had been “to the summit and safe return,” and this event would change her life forever.
When she was 22 years old, she lost one of her brothers in an accident, which propelled her into a rough confrontation with some of the unpredictability and unfairness of existence: formulating the quest; ‘Get busy living or get busy dying. If you were to die in 24 hours are you then living life the way you find meaningful? If not what are you willing to do to change it? Your life is not going to improve until you do’.
Lene is not someone who only talks the talk. She walks it as well. By means of using the strategies for survival formulated from the disaster during her 1996 Everest climb that took the lives of eight of her compatriots, Lene has, for over ten years, worked with management and leaders globally in order to develop potential. He clients include some Fortune 500 companies.
The bestselling author of Climbing High, her book about the dynamics that lead to both triumph and tragedy during the 1996 Everest expedition, has been translated and released in thirteen languages. She is also the author of To The Summit and Safe Return, and the more recent The Choice is Yours.
Lene credits her survival during the Everest Climb to the brain programming strategies she developed in order to conquer Everest. She also accredits these strategies to her continued success.
“What divides brilliant individuals and those who get to the top – is a decisive quest for meaning – pooled with insistent durable determination. Individuals who generate impact in life – discipline willpower – they pause when necessary, but – Never give up!” – Lene Gammelgaard
Lene owns and operates her own business and is often published in German and Danish newspapers and magazines.
The internationally acclaimed speaker and consultant spends much of her time raising funds for the Lapka Sherpa Educational Foundation. The aim of the foundation is paying for the education of deceased Sherpa mountaineers in Nepal.
Lene is an expert in what is known as ‘neuroleadership’, a concept whereby the brain’s physiology is taken into account and applying it to organizational practices by using proven neurological science strategies.
Lena Gammelgaard believes in using aspects of neuroscience to programme the brain to overcome challenges, lead, and to attain your goals. She believes that when one takes the time to programme your brain, you are able to be successful both in your personal and professional life.
