An accomplished futurist, research analyst, and author, Mats Lewan has spent his career exploring the intersection of technology and humanity. He spent fifteen years working as a science and technology reporter at Ny Teknik, the leading technology magazine in Sweden. He was also the founder and managing editor of Next Magazine, a forward-looking Swedish digital magazine.
Before his tenure at Ny Teknik, Mat Lewan was an international freelance journalist and a reporter for CBS CNET News in San Francisco while a student at the Innovation Journalism Program at Stanford University.
Both as an author and journalist, Mat Lewan focuses on the interaction between technology, innovation, and humanity. His documentary book ‘An Impossible Invention’ sees him follow the quest of a controversial inventor who wants to develop a seemingly impossible energy source while defying current scientific paradigms. At the same time, however, there are myriad documents from experienced researchers proving that it, although elusive and hard to explain, it is entirely possible.
Another hat Mat Lewan wears is that of a management consultant. He has an innate ability to help organisations both understand and prepare for the future. This he does by helping them develop and communicate key perspectives and scenarios, researching, analysing, and providing strategic guidance and support for a company’s change management efforts.
Also a sought-after moderator, Mats Lewan has a broad range of interests that include, amongst others, philosophy, psychology, leadership, and technology. He has an extensive knowledge of technology that soundly equips him with the ability to both understand and discuss topics spanning various industries.
Mats Lewan holds a Master of Science degree from Stockholm’s Royal Institute in Sweden. Amongst his myriad clients, he counts the likes of Toyota, VISA, SAP, Cygate, Capio, ABB, Microsoft, Hill & Knowlton, Rodolfo, and Etteplan.
As a conference speaker, Mars Lewan draws on years of experience monitoring and analysing innovations and technological progress. His talks focus on how we have the opportunity to transform companies from environmental villains to environmental heroes. Adept at tailoring his approach to cater to his audience’s needs, he makes use of just the right mix of facts, inspiration, and humor to keep them engaged throughout his talks. He lives in Sweden and presents in English and Swedish and is fluent in Italian.
It is based on my longtime experience of monitoring and analyzing innovation and technological progress in different parts of the transportation industry. I am talking about the importance of technology shifts for increased sustainability and circular economy, but also the crucial role of visionary entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs as role models and sources of inspiration, while the need for new competencies is pushed by new technologies.
"I just have to thank you Mats Lewan, publicly, who today delivered a brilliant standup lecture, straight up and down with all its rhetorical tricks. I have seen thousands of lectures, as an audience, as a moderator and the new thing is a demand for short speeches followed by conversations and reflections. This was simply the best I've seen in that genre. Thanks for coming Mats and brightening up the convention."
“I asked my colleagues and they had these comments: Thoughtworthy! Well prepared and pedagogic! Passionate! Exhilarating! Exciting! Engaging! Revolutionary! Recommended! Everyone should get his lecture! You brought strong emotions and thoughts. You painted a future scenario that is contrary to the foundations that govern our work as labor intermediaries, e.g. that we should get people into work and create new jobs. What you said is revolutionary because it essentially means that society is slowly changing towards being more and more run by artificial intelligence rather than humans. Man is about to eliminate herself and no-one reacts. Future work is more specialized and qualified, while unskilled jobs will be carried out by robots and computers.”
“I have had the privilege of collaborating with Mats several times in recent years and he impresses me greatly with his versatility. He excels as a lecturer, and has a deep competence in many different areas. He excels as a moderator, is well versed in the subjects being discussed as well as in the background and the area of competence of the speakers. With the help of his own interest and knowledge in the issues, he guides the speakers or panel members in order to create an interesting and inspiring situation that is welcomed by the participants and the audience. Most recently in June 2020, I booked Mats as a host of a two-day live conference. Around 60 participants—the majority participated in the studio and some participated via link—in short max 30-minute program features with current and very varied topics together with well-known representatives from business, economics, politics, community service, security, small business, education, etc. Mats excelled again. I highly recommend Mats.”
“I would like to thank you Mats for the outstanding and thought provoking presentation you held at the inauguration of our new production facilities in Stenungsund, Sweden. We are a 'bricks and mortar' type of company with a traditional thinking style. The use of new technology is not obvious to us. Nevertheless, you were able to take an idea from concept into something exciting and visual, that really reinforced the message you wanted to get across. You managed to inspire a large and diverse group of people with your way of communicating in an excellent way. I would warmly recommend others to use your services.”
“An amazing and inspiring talk initiated by bringing an uneasy and unsettling feeling when Mats in an excellent manner visualizes where our world is headed and at what furious pace this is happening. The lecture ends splendidly where the audience's feeling of unease is abruptly replaced by hope in that he manages to raise awareness of the enormous and amazing opportunities we have in the radical paradigm shift that we currently find ourselves in.”
