French-born Nicolas Vanier is a true adventurer whose passion is traveling over the far reaches of the planet’s northern frontiers. As such, he has undertaken expeditions in such diverse areas as Siberia, the Yukon, the Bering Strait, and Alaska. These voyages have seen him use a horse, sled, and his own two feet.
Born in Senekal, Africa, but raised in Sologne, France, Nicolas harbored a love for nature and adventure from childhood. After finishing his schooling career, he embarked on his first expedition in 1983, crossing Lapland and the Quebec-Labrador Peninsula. It was the start of his great adventures. Although he has passed the age of 50, Nicolas Vanier has not yet shown any indication of stopping.
Besides his adventures, Nicolas has a love of documentary making. Besides showcasing his own adventures, however, he also makes films encapsulating the true meaning of living with nature. One such is the 2013 film Ballet et Sebastien, a film that tells the story of the meeting and developing friendship between a solitary child and a dog. It was a hit in France.
His various expeditions over the last thirty years have seen Nicolas Vanier observe the consequences of climate change first-hand, as well as different cultures and the biodiversity found on the globe. Because of his experiences, he firmly believes man is able to live in harmony with nature and advocates a way of life that supports sustainability and balance, thus protecting the planet and its beautiful swathes of untamed land.
