Explorer and adventurer Robby Kojetin is not just another adventurer and conqueror of Mount Everest. His story is one of reaching rock bottom and rebuilding a life that had crashed, leaving him in the pits of despair. Often called the “Bucket List Guru”, Robby shares with audiences the importance of perseverance, digging within yourself and attaining your dreams.
Robby Kojetin is an ordinary guy with a difference: he has an extraordinary story. His Everest climbing success started from within the confines of a wheelchair.
Robby’s story starts in 2006, when a freak climbing accident saw him fall, breaking both ankles and causing permanent injury to both joints. This saw him land up in a wheelchair. Robby found himself with crippling debt at his lowest point in constant pain and with severe depression. He spiralled down into an abyss, with despair and hopelessness his bedmates. He had nothing left – literally.
Having reached bedrock, Robby came to a decision: “I decided this was not the end; it was the beginning.” He pulled out his bucket list and decided he would overcome his problems and reach the summit of the highest mountain in the world, Mount Everest. And he did, literally, one step at a time. Conquering this mountain had been his dream since age fifteen.
According to Robby, he was not the first, the fastest, or the youngest climber to do so, but the most driven. This drive allowed him to pick up the pieces of his life and come out a winner.
Robby is, these days, as “The Bucket List Guru”, due to his constant thirst for adventure has led to his conquering five of the world’s highest summits spanning six continents and completing the iron man competition, and fish for piranha in South America.
“People are happiest, healthiest, and most productive when doing the things that matter to them.” – Robby Kojetin.
Robby’s story of rising above the odds despite debilitating circumstances is encapsulated in his novel, Left Foot, Right Foot, a book that tells the tale of a man who, despite all odds, got out of a wheelchair and succeeded beyond his wildest expectations. His book is filled with the most exquisite photographs of his expedition, and have received many a mention.
“One of the most real and brutally honest adventure books written. It touches the core of the human spirit.” – Brett Ross.
Resilience – this is a story about losing everything and what it takes to rebuild a life from absolute rock bottom and not giving up until you reach the ultimate goal…the summit of Mount Everest.
Robby is not the first, youngest or the fastest to summit Everest … as he says “just the most driven.”
