Roger L. Martin was named the world’s #1 management thinker by Thinkers50 in 2017. He ranked 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, and 7th in the other ranking years over the past decade. CEOs worldwide consider him a trusted strategy advisor. These include the CEOs of Procter & Gamble, Lego, Ford, BHP, and Verizon. He is also the founder and president of Roger L. Martin Inc., a global consulting company.
Roger L. Martin is a Professor Emeritus at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto, where he served as Dean from 1998-2013, Academic Director of the Michael Lee-Chin Family Institute for Corporate Citizenship from 2004-2019, and Institute Director of the Martin Prosperity Institute from 2013-2019. In 2013, the leading business school website Poets & Quants named him global dean of the year.
Before joining Rotman, Roger L. Martin spent 13 years as a Director of Monitor Company. This is a global strategy consulting firm based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he served as co-head of the firm for two years.
Roger L. Martin’s research focus includes strategy, democratic capitalism, integrative thinking, design of business, incentives and governance, and social innovation. An author of note, he has written thirteen books and 33 Harvard Review Articles.
In 2010, Business Week named Roger L. Martin one of the 27 most influential designers in the world. Before this, in 2007, he was named a Business Week ‘B-School All-Star’ for being one of the 10 most influential business professors in the world. Business Week also named him one of seven ‘Innovation Gurus’ in 2005.
Roger L. Martin currently serves as Chair of The Good Jobs Institute and the I-Think Initiative. He is also on the Board of The Nine Dots Prize.
Regarding his educational background, Roger L. Martin received his BA from Harvard College in 1979 and his MBA from the Harvard Business School in 1981. He received a Doctor of Laws (honoris causa) from the Royal Military College of Canada in 2018.
