Russell Kane is not only an award-winning comedian, but an actor, television presenter, and writer as well. He has, during career, succeeded in establishing himself as one of the UK’s best comics. The Essex native, after completing high school, studied English at Middlesex University, graduating with a degree in Media Writing.

Russell’s career took off in 2004, when he won the Laughing Horse New Act of the Year in 2004, followed by second place in the 2005 So You Think You’re Funny. The rest, as they say, is history.

Amongst his many awards, he counts the following:

Russell was nominated for the Edinburgh Comedy awards four times before winning Best Show in 2010 and went on to become the first comedian to ever win both the Edinburgh Award and the Melbourne Comedy Festival’s Barry Award in the space of one year.

The multi-talented Russell Kane is, however, more than ‘just another’ standup comedian. He has featured on television and other media as well.

Amongst his media engagements, he counts:

Russell Kane’s debut novel, The Humorist, published in 2012, was nominated for a literary prize. Said by many to be biographical, it charts the journey of a man unable to laugh yet who understands humour and laughter. Kane has also written, directed, and starred in three plays. His award-winning show Smokescreens and Castles was recorded at the Palace Theatre at Westcliff-on-Sea and released by Universal Pictures in 2011. In 205, Russell appeared in the film ‘Scottish Mussell’, produced by Noel Clarke.

  • “Camp – but straight – comedians are notoriously hard to come by in the comedy sphere but Kane is one of the best at the role.”

  • “He interacts well with the audience, he asks them questions about their family life and pays particular interest with the couples in the crowd. It would help if you were at the same stage of life as Kane, a couple with a new born child. But you don’t have to be. You’ll still find this show funny no matter what age you are. That’s the appeal of Kane.”

  • “There is a lot to process here, particularly when you are so busy laughing, but attention pays dividends. This is a frantic performance yet also thoughtful and reflective. Kane’s delivery is unique and when he closes by recalling his daughter’s birth you’ll discover that her delivery was rather unique too. A smart guy indeed.”
