As Director of Applied AI at Google, Scott Penberthy leads up a team of AI engineers and Ph.D.’s whose purpose, by means of AI technologies, is to help VIPs reimagine the production of goods and services and their value exchange on various free markets. He has a Ph.D. in AI and Computer Science and multiple degrees from MIT and the University of Washington.
Before taking up this role at Google, Scott was a Technical Director in the Office of the CTO. A part of Google, the group’s focus was on helping customers succeed in the world of cloud computing. His time was also invested in the AI labs of Silicon Valley, Wall Street, and different boardrooms. His vast experience in AI and the financial sector culminated in his being asked to build up a team whose sole focus would be AI.
Scott Penberthy has held the position of Managing Director in the CEOs office of PwC. Here, he led a transformation in PwC’s technology, from one that was on the premises, to one that is cloud-based. Before this, he was CTO at a number of Web Startups after his meteoric rise from IBM Research to the IBM Chairperson’s office during the 1990’s.
Away from work, Scott is a passionate triathlete and father who believes in STEM education. He also plays a mentorship role in the Machine Learning and Self-Driving Car NanoDegree programmes at Udacity.
As a speaker, Scott Penberthy uses numerous stories garnered throughout his working career to make his presentations accessible, interesting, and as a means of illustration. He has coordinated leaders spanning Europe, the Americas, and Asia, debated with various regulations bodies and lawyers, and educated boards and accountants across the globe about AI and public clouds.
