Former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship in Argentina until 2017. After stepping down from this position, she became Minister Advisor to the Argentinian president until the end of that year. She presided, during this time, over the Eleventh WTO Ministerial Conference in Buenos Aires.
Susana Malcorra has twenty-five years of experience in the private sector. She worked at IBM, later transitioning to Telecom Argentina where she became the CEO. In 2002, however, she decided to seek other opportunities in non-profit organisations.
Joining the United Nations World Food Programme in 2004, she quickly made headway in the organisation. By 2008, she was appointed as Under-Secretary of the newly created Department of Field Support. Susanna Malcorra was in charge of providing logistics, communications, financial support services, and personnel to the various UN peacekeeping operations across the globe. April of 2012 saw Susanna Malcorra become Chief of Staff to the Secretary-General at the time Ban Ki-moon.
Besides her lengthy career in the private business sector, Susana Malcorra has gained invaluable experience in the diplomatic field. Her experience from this time includes her handling of a wide range of activities that include the handling of difficult negotiations in conflict situations, and the approval of financial, strategic, and budgetary issues. Issues pertinent to her job were the coordination of missions to eliminate Syrian chemical weapons and responding to the West African Ebola crisis.
After leaving the Government of the Republic of Argentina, Ms. Malcorra has been linked to numerous think tanks, foundations and NGOs related to issues of democracy, world government, leadership and gender. In addition, she is one of the founders of the Global Women Leaders Voices for Change and Inclusion initiative and is the advisor to numerous companies and non-profit organizations.
Susana is fully dedicated to the ideals of democracy, sustainability, international trade, and multilateralism, Susana Malcorra is frequently asked to speak at various high-profile functions. A successful author, she feels women’s leadership and empowerment are matters at the centre of everything she does. She resides in Spain and is fluent in English, French, and Spanish.
