Tamara Lohan, together with her husband James, is the co-founder of one of the United Kingdom’s most successful accommodation brands, Mr. & Mrs. Smith. The couple came up with the idea of a carefully curated collection of hotels after a disastrous international trip, resulting in them writing down a list of what they expected from a hotel. These notes led to a business plan. After putting everything in a guidebook that nobody would publish, they did so themselves and started what has become the imminently successful Mr. & Mrs. Smith, a company that represents a collection of over a thousand boutique and luxury hotels spanning the globe. The company currently offers a 24-hour customer service and booking support line. They have also launched a “Family Hub” which highlights a variety of hotels catering to families with children.

Tamara Lohan is currently the company’s CTO and leads a development team who use cutting-edge technology for both the website and booking engine. She is also instrumental in launching the Smith Travel Blog, Smith and kids.com, smithandfamily.co.uk, and the Smith Hotels iPhone app.

Tamara, as well as her husband James, were awarded MBEs for services to the British travel industry in 2014.

Tamara, a skilled linguist who studied languages at Oxford University is a seasoned traveler who grew up travelling between the United Kingdom and Spain. The travel bug, however, only officially hit her when, before starting Mr. & Mrs. Smith, she had to fly to Brazil for the launch of a new energy drink. As her career progressed, Tamara worked in the marketing departments of various international brands, all the while honing her skills and technical knowledge. Amongst these companies previously worked for she includes such giants as Unilever, Honda, Swissair, and Ericsson.

Tamara was ready to give up the security of the corporate environment in 2002, starting her own company, The Country register. This introduction agency paved the way for the launch of Mr. & Mrs. Smith.

Tamara Lohan became a Non-Executive Director of the company notonthehighstreet.com in 2017. The company specialises in gifts and accoutrements in partnership with small, creative businesses.
