Will Greenwood is a former Trader in The City of London who then went on to play rugby for England culminating in winning the 2003 Rugby World Cup. He is also considered as one of rugby’s most intelligent and engaging speakers.
Will Greenwood’s success may have been because of his direct exposure to competition from being on a pressure packed trading floor during the years he worked in the financial sector as a city trader. Yet being the son of a former rugby player and coach for the England Rugby Union had more perks – the athletic spirit clearly ran in the blood. Will proceeded to become an unsurpassed mid-field player with an outstanding 11-year career and 55 international caps.
Will made his professional debut in 1994 for Harlequins before progressing to Leicester and being handed his full England international debut in 1997. With a degree in economics Will has employed his analytic skills in the game of rugby to find an edge over his competition.
He admits to having poured over defensive patterns and spent hours replaying his performance to find out his and others weak points. He proved that being in sports does not only require physical prowess but mental one, too. His extensive studies and experience makes him a largely sought after motivational speaker.
Will retired from his awe inspiring career in 2006 and since then has enjoyed a career as a media personality. His column in the Daily Telegraph prompted an invitation to join the IRB’s assessors as England’s representative for its Player of the Year Award. He is also Non-Executive Director of Beyond Sport Foundation, an organisation whose mission is to urge positive change through sports. He also works as an analyst for Sky Sports and makes guest appearances when he’s not too busy.
